Treasure hunting at The Old Cinema antiques, vintage and retro department store in Chiswick
I recently had the pleasure of a rare day off, so having heard wonderful things about The Old Cinema on Chiswick High Road I boarded a train to London to see what all the fuss is about. Wow, does this place live up to the hype! Billed as London’s only department store devoted to antiques, vintage, retro, industrial and upcycled furniture, it is, as you might guess, housed in an old cinema, the original frontage setting the scene for the wonders that lie beyond.
Room after room brimming with treasures. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you find another hidden corner to delve into, another stylish piece of furniture drawing you in. The range is huge. I spent two wonderful hours browsing. You feel drawn to the products on display, invited to touch, explore and visualise how you might fit them into your home.
I left feeling totally inspired, with lots of ideas for my next collection as well as ways in which to display my personal collections and how to lay out my stalls at the fairs I attend. I will be returning shortly with a van and more pennies!
